Church History The church of Christ came into existence on the day of Pentecost, as prophesied in Isaiah 2:1-3. The apostle Peter confirmed the fulfilling of the prophecy when he said, "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour (9:00am) of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: "And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams (Acts 2:15-17). Thus, the last days began on the day of Pentecost.
On the day of Pentecost Peter preached to the dwellers in Jerusalem and convicted them of crucifying the Son of God (Acts 2:22,23). They were cut to their hearts and asked Peter and the rest of the apostles what to do. After being told what to do they were baptized and the Lord added them to His church (Acts 2:47). Thus, the church of Christ came into existence on the day of Pentecost.
The church of Christ at, Jackson Community Road
The Jackson Community congregation was established in the summer of 1956 by, Evangelist John Henry Clay of Pasadena, California. During his two week gospel meeting approximately 20 souls responded to the gospel call and were baptized for the remission of sins. In 1957, the church broke ground to erect a building where the saints would meet to offer praises to the Lord (Heb. 10:25). Approximately 53 years later, the membership is 42 strong.
In 1978, the building underwent major renovations to include indoor plumbing, central heat and air, new pews, wall-to-wall carpeting, florescent lighting and a drop ceiling. Several years later a 65 foot Fellowship Hall was added with a full kitchen. Several years later four classrooms were added, a library and his and her restrooms. The last renovation was the installation of a baptistery. We look back and wonder how we got over. To God we give the glory for spiritual and physical accomplishments.
The current minister is Bro. Eli Andrews, Jr. He has been laboring with this congregation for the past 27 years. We thank him for his dedicated services to the work of the Lord's church.
